The number of doors doesn't make a car any less of a performance car. But I dare you to go into the M5 forums and announce that you want to install an automatic transmission in an M5. The M5 has remained what it was originally built to be, a kick-ass, fast as hell performance sedan and the M5 "purists" would be pissed as hell if BMW decided to market an auto-trans version. The M3 has evolved from the quintessential sports coupe to a bloated joke. It's about the M3 being true to its original concept - being a car originally developed, tested and bred to be a race car. If it weren't for homologation rules, the original M3 would have never built. I can guarantee you that the original fathers of ///Motorsport never even conceptualized 4-door M3. The E46 M3 is a great effort to get back to the original concept even though it is still a little more luxury-oriented than performance oriented. The E36 M3LTW was a step in the right direction, as is the new E46 M3CSL.

With the success and popularity of the E30 M3, BMW's sales and marketing droids, dollar signs in their eyes, decided to market the E36 M3 as far and wide as possible to the "unwashed masses". Since the E30 M3s were largely sold at a loss to BMW (never intended to be a mass production car), the company cut corners on the E36 M3 by using the existing 3-series chassis with cheap tack-on body panels, threw in some neat-looking seats, put in an unimpressive 3.0 liter engine in and had the new 330is. Slap ///M badges on the front and rear and now it's an "M3"? To add insult to injury, 4 doors and an automatic transmission were added to make the cars more appealing to soccer-moms tired of their minivans. This further diluted the once great image of the "boy racer" and reduced it to nothing more than a kid-hauling grocery-getter with an M badge.

You might as well be bringing a knife to a gunfight instigating trouble in here. I can't imagine what the motivation was for your original post, but to expect to get support for your rant is ridiculous. You haven't even made a valid argument to your cause. All I did was some harmless poking at the E36 M3/4. If you want to drive the car, more power to you - I'm glad you like it - but don't get into your head that the car is or ever will be even half as capable or as respected as the E30 M3. All you have succeeded in doing is making yourself look like an ass. And backing yourself up by posting as Mr. Rude is so sixth grade. Have your mommy make you a nice PB&J with the crusts cut off and go back to the E36 M3 board with the rest of the chimps and leave us alone. You are not welcome here.

and you are dreaming if you think a e30 m3 is the only "real" m car because it only has 2 doors...

that's fucking absurd!
