I don't like the looks of the WRX either, but with a few mods they look pretty good. With lower suspension and pod-style headlights (see the WRX rally car) it looks ok. Just drive one and the looks take a backseat. It is not as nice as an S4, but it is more raw like the e30. Nice seats, great handling plus for $600 you can make a 13 sec. car. Software, exhaust and a maual boost controller almost hit that 300 hp goal. But the S4 would also be a good choice. Nice interior and more style than WRX.
