My son just bought a 1984, 318i and from day one it has been in the shop. Me being a mechanic (Heavy Equipment)am not up on these cars. What it is doing , when start up will run anywhere from 2 - 7 minutes and then start leaning itself out to the point that it stops running. When it shuts off you can restart and it starts fine and then goes into a lean condition all over. Does't matter if cold, warm, or hot. The shop that has it specializes in German cars , They have replaced a few parts that they found out were bad and even tried a new (Main)computer just to see what it does. Same condition. The way that they explained to me it sounded almost like something was heating up and losing the signal and they said that they have checked and rechecked and can't find problem. Is there any place on car that a wire might rub through or could possibly be a ground problem that is common with this model? They have replaced the barometric sensor, air box, coolant sensor, checked fuel pump pressure, repaired bad wire on alternator, (thought that it might cause a bad input for voltage, and tried another computer for the fuel injection, it checked out OK. They have had car for 3 weeks and now it is not about money it is about just finding problem just to say that they FIXED IT so I figured I would put it out on the internet. If anyone could help I would appreciate it.Thanks

I forgot to mention mileage, around 128,000, How would I know if this is a E30 or a E21, I don't know that much about these cars but I have a feeling that I am going to find out. Thanks again
