I did this on my E36 when I had it. It'll also work for the E30, just use the proper diagnostic pin diagram for reference. Just solder a resistor onto a wire and you've got your reset tool. Have a buddy hold one wire end to the proper pin, while grounding the other end to the shock tower or any other appropriate grounding spot, while you turn the key. Remember there are two different length time intervals, one for resetting oil lights and one for resetting overall service lights. Easy to do, only takes a few minutes. Good luck
