Ps did you read my post below regarding the rust on the floor, it may be worth checking just to be on the safe side!
I believe the S14 filter has a different flow design which gives a better flow of oil which i assume would be more important at high RPM`s. It is also 4quid more expensive than the M10 one I think.
Magnatec for basic engines? I would say the S14 is more of an advanced one, maybe not by modern standards I suppose.
I have used Mobil 1 0w40, and now Castrol SLX 0w30. Both of those are fully synthetic. The SLX was recommended by BMW themselves especially when i mentioned its likely to see some track action. SLX isnt cheap though and is about 5ukpounds more expensive than Mobil 1.
We should really keep close to what the M3 owners manual suggests wich is 10w40. But when the manual was written the oils we have today didnt exist.
I have changed the oil on my car (6 months ago) and am about to do it again. I ordered an oil filter from local dealer and got the standard M10 filter. Also when having my timing chain replaced (not at the dealer, a local indipendant)i asked the guys at the shop what filter they reccomended they did not seem to concerned that i had the m10 filter in.
If there is a sygnificant benefit i would to like to know about it
Also what oil do you lads use? i have been advised that mineral or semi synth is the best. I currently use GTX Magnitec (basic engines) after seeking advice from dealer and independant!
Brits, can someone confirm that using a generic BMW 4cyl oil filter is a big no no? Bascially I filled an order on eurocarparts and to bring my order up to value but to avoid payig extra delivery I added on an oil filter which was recommended for my car but it is the M10 4cyl one.
Ive been told, and now know there is actually a special filter for the M3. Would it be a big no no to use it? i guess it would be. Damn
My engine rarely makes any chain noise at start up with standard oil but I do get some minor noise when I use 15w-50 Mobil 1.
