such thing as 84 m323i? (archive)

I saw one for sale that has M badging on front and rear but the engine does not say m power on it and it looks like the normal BMW 6 cylinde and it is an automatic. It also doesnt have teh e30 bulging fenders. The seller claims it is a 1984 M323i imported from Germany. I will try to get the vin number from him to check that but I did do a search and found someone selling an information brochure for 1984 m323's and m320's. Has anyoen heard of this model before a if so, how much should they be?
