The same way, a 318is is not an ///M even though it sports M Technic aerodynamics and suspension.

Actually a North American spec (US & Canada) 318is
doesn't have M Technic aerodynamics or suspension.

The only M Technic sedans are in Europe,Australia,
and New Zealand. The only US spec E30 to have the
M Technic body cladding and suspension was the
late 92 and 93 E30 325i Cabriolet. The 318is
has the same sport suspension and spoiler setup
as the 89-90 325is, and neither are M Technic.
