i have a friend in utah that has an 88 that turned over 300,000 miles on it ,oil changed every 3000 miles (motor had never been apart). motor just recently had to come apart after it overheated while his wife was driving it (blew a coolant hose then blew the headgasket) .while motor was apart he mic'd the bores ,it had less then .001 taper in bore's ,pretty amazing ! he said it never used any more than 1 qt of oil between oil changes(same as when he got it new) , and he drives this car very hard (over 120mph on freeway jaunts).he was in line to purchase a new E46M3 but has decided after seeing how nice the inside of his S-14 motor is he's gonna stick with his E30. so they will last a very long time if taken care of

I'm looking to buy an E30 m3 for under 10 grand. What are the major things i should look for(the good and the bad) during my search for one. I'm looking at one in particular with 169,000 miles on the original motor, which hasn't been rebuilt, when will that engine start to die out?
