Injection wiring question - Help appreciated (archive)

I have reinstalled the tranny, and cranked the car. I miss the signal that starts the fuel pump (no buzz). If I connect the starter's #50 wire directly to the big starter #30 I get my fuel pump.

Why don't I get a proper ignition signal for the pump?

Also the DME harness has a big loom that goes to the firewall, a 3-wire connector that goes nowhere, and a 1 blue/white wire that goes to the under the dash. The connector that comes from the dash and that should connect to the previous wire is a two-wire black connector. Is my problem related to that 2 to one connection?
