You have lots of good parts in there. The spare interior is worth $800, Schrick cam is $600, etc, etc. If the damage was fixed WELL and properly rust-proofed, then there should be no trouble.
Compression and leakdown tests will show the condition of the engine. Over 160psi all 4 cylinders, no more than 10% difference among the 4, and less than 10% leakdown are very good numbers. Over 15% leakdown is getting close to rebuild time.

when i first got the car, he wanted to put an E28 M5 motor in it, He loves inline 6's from BMW, likes how smooth they are. He still raves about the 2.5L in our 525iT even though the M3 has more power.
and yes it wont pass smog, if you noticed i said under things that needed to be fixed was get the car to pass smog. A member of our chapter of the BMW car club had his new E30 M3 smog and had very similar results to my smog test. our mechanic tested and replaced the O2 sensor and the car passed fine. my car is perfect at idle, but here they also test at 15mph and that is where it failed, this is the same thing that my club friend experienced. I'm just doing the valve job becuause i want to be extra cautious.
why is it when i give you information on what i think the car is worth, you start investigating? I told you everything about the car even that it was in an accident and it wont pass smog, so tell me what you think it is worth with the information that i have given you. thank you
