A quick review: I was involved in an accident a month and a half ago that
totalled my car. My neighbor, who is also a lawyer, tried to help me get
REAL money out of the insurance company, but no dice.
It turns out that I screwed myself by claiming a smaller purchase price at
MVA. I paid 16k for the car, and Geico only gave me $9600 (actually $8400
+ the salvaged car - valued at $1200). Since I only claimed 8k or so at
MVA, we couldn't sue them. Otherwise, wour case would have been
solid. He was able to get me a rental for almost a month, but the whole
situation was a real mess. I had no idea that insurance companies were
such sheisters. In the future, I think I will request that they appraise
the car, or I will insure it for a specified amount and pay a higher
premium.
This would have really upset me, BUT I just bought an '88 Diamonschwartz
from Randy Blenman in NYC. I brought it just this past weekend, and am
VERY pleased with the car. This car was on e-bay sometime
ago...fyi. Randy is an excellent person to do business with. He is a
really good guy, and has an incredible collection of bimmers (including an
'88 M5, 72 CSL, and another '88 M3 on the way)
It just feels good to be behind the wheel of an M3 again!!! It's therapy
on wheels. Xcept now it's snowing in DC :(I will also be parting my old car out...so if you have any requests, let
me know. I will send out an e-mail with a little more detail about the
old car soon. Here are some pics of the wreck:
