where did you get the data from?

looks wrong - my 325i engine being 5 Kg lighter than the latest (M52) 6 cylinder engine with aluminum block!


I'm compiling data from parts CD's and the website listed above. The weights do vary from source to source. I haven't found any HARD data yet, there seems to be too many discrepancies. From the site above here's the data:

M20 117kg - 257.99lbs
M30 143kg - 315.32lbs
M50 136kg - 299.88lbs
M52 118kg - 260.19lbs (aluminum block)
M52 140kg - 308.70lbs (iron)
S14 106kg - 233.73lbs
S38 146kg - 321.93lbs (early)
S38 151kg - 332.96lbs (late)
S50 152kg - 335.16lbs

The numbers are different but only slightly. Even these numbers show that the S50 weighs slightly more than the S38! VERY interesting.
