hehe I guess no one paid attention to my post about engine weights. The S38 is actually slightly lighter than the S50! I was skeptical myself until someone posted a site that had supported the claim. Either way u go, you will upset the balance of the car by 80-100lbs. You can lose some weight by going with a bunch of lightweight front end parts and removing AC though.

I am still heavily leaning towards an S14 with proper engine management (read: not Motronic).

I think the gains had by a modern system will give the S14 a more than adequate amount of torque (and HP) while also improving drivability.

It is a real shame that the majority of e30 M3 enthusiasts are afraid to veer away from Conforti approved modifications.
