Those with airbag have this problem too. (mine) The large black nut needs to be torqued down while holding the shaft in place (hold the wheel). This will cure the problem but also slightly reduce steering column collapse in an accident.


my 318is and my friends both had a little clunking noise when we would go over bumps.

I dont know if M3's have this, but our steering shafts were made of two parts (one part splined, inside a cylinder) and had a sleeve or ring at the joint that had to be tightned up to remove the clunking noise. (dont tighten too much though)

like i said, i'm not sure if the M3's have this particular tightening sleeve though.
