Yes, a quick search on the web turned up the fact that exhaust noise citations must be tied to the SAE J1169 test procedure and a level above 95dB. You can see an article about it here.

What exhaust setup do you have anyway? I had a Supersprint straight center section with a Stromung muffler a while back and I would set off 5 or 6 alarms in my parking garage just by starting my car. I've fired it up with only headers and downpipe and it is DAMN LOUD...way way louder than the SS/Stromung setup.

If you are running anything that resembles a reasonable muffler, even if you have a straight center section, you probably aren't over 95dB. BTW, all I can find about the test is that it's stationary and is not meant to determine maximum sound levels. If you want more info you have to go the the SAE website and download the procedure for 59 damn dollars!

i've got the stock cat and a muffler much like this
but with DTM tips, basicly its a dual in dual out megaphone where the two tips exhaust pipes do not re-connect after the cat. it was all custom mounted and fitted. the muffler (megaphone) was real cheap, my muffler was falling off at the time, so this one went on in place of it. not the best decision, and i bet i lost some hp up top, but man it sounds sweet on the auto-x course
