if the oil is changed on any BMW motor at 3k or suggested change intervals they will all be imaculate inside . BMW motors run very clean inside if maintained as opposed to some others(wont mention any names but honda/acura,toyota nissan, ford gm ,chry come to mind )that even if oil is changed regularly the are disgusting inside which is why i won't own anything but a BMW pulled bmw motors with 300,000 miles apart and they look like new inside wont find that with ANY other motor! i know i,ve rebuilt them all

My schedule is to change Mobil 1 every 3K miles, which is about 3 1/2 months. I buy the big 5 quart size container at Wal Mart on sale for $14. When I pulled the oil pan to install a baffle, I found the CLEANEST oil pan I had ever experienced. Before the M3, I had used various mineral oils (Havoline, Castrol, Valvoline, Pennzoil), and NONE of them were as clean as the Mobil 1. IMHO, it`s worth the extra expense.
