No SI lights (archive)

I have an 88 and the SI lights blink on start up then I have no lights on once the car is running.
Also my oil temp gauge will snap to 300 and then fix itself.

I was planning on replacing the batteries, I have a good motometer SI board from a 90 325 and radio shack sells the exact battery w/ the metal tabs on the website.

My question is I know that if the lights are on all the time a new battery will fix the problem but if I have no lights is it a wiring problem and not the battery?

Thanks, kevin
