I had this happen. Cruising along on the highway, normal speeds, car stops accelerating and responding.

I coast to side, check it out. Call mechanic, I am told to check the rotor. I did, it was in 10 pieces. About 1500 miles on the rotor too since I replaced it. It turns out that the locating pin that attaches the plate behind the rotor to the camshaft so everything stays in time broke and the rotor spun freely and shattered.

So the locater pin had to be drilled out and a new one had to be fabricated. Luckily I was near a great shop because this was about 45 minutes into my 1200 mile drive across the country. They fixed it in about 3-hours, sourced a new rotor and the car was great the entire time i had it.

It was a Bremi though, so I bought Bosch the next time around.
