....not every time, but enough to be worrysome. After inspecting the old parts, I concluded that a new tensioner may have cured the rattling. The chain showed almost no wear and the tensioner rails were worn but still serviceable. The problem is that you must disassemble the whole thing to inspect the rails, so you might as well change everything while you`re there. I`m certainly glad I did, because the car is SO much smoother and quieter.

At what mileage have owners changed their timing chains and related guides? Has anyone had one break, and if so, was there any warning?
