Hi, I am new to the list and have a question about the reliability of the E30 M3. I just sold my MR2 and I am in the process of buying an 89 limited with "motorsport" hand painted pinstripes with 80K for $14,000. The price seems a bit steep but the car is in perfect condition and the guy has BMW service records with motorsport filters and synthetic oil since new. I talked to a very small independent shop in town today that said that was way too much for the car and that the S-14 was a problem prone engine, which basically contradicted everything I learned about the E30 M3. You guys know more about the M3 than that shop I would imagine, I know that parts are expensive, but I am an ASE tech and do all my own work so the parts cost doesn't scare me too much. Basically I am asking a: is 14k steep for a perfect car with 80K? b:Are these cars expensive to keep up and break all the time or was that mechanic full of bs? I am set on an e30 M3, its only a matter of time and I don't want to get ripped off. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
