Talk with Andrew Sanchez up in Phoenix at Bavarian Motors 602-254-7380. He's the local expert up here and races them too.

If you're a mechanic, I'd look for a car that's not perfect mechanically, but with a nice body. 14K is priced right for a perfect car, assuming you don't need to put any work in it. But....

As for reliability, I owned a '91 for 7 years, never a problem with the car. Regretted selling it, so I just picked up an '88 with full service records since new, no accidents, but high miles for a fraction of that 14K. It needs some minor wear and tear work though... But willing to do that to save the $$$
