...aluminum shield off above the cat. It had undercoating as well as cosmoline on it. I tried everything you have tried, and the ONLY thing that removed it was acetone, which is also a pretty effective paint remover. However, the undercoating came off pretty easy with naphtha. I didn`t try Liquid Wrench, however. Rubbing compound will smooth the texture of the crinkle paint. There was a tech bulletin sent to dealers that said to use diesel fuel.

OK so I tried to take off some cosmoline today........ hands hurt like hell! SO here's the score:
Mineral spirits/paint thinner----- no help!
Castrol Super clean----- no help!
Goo Gone----- no help!
Goof off----- no help!
Paint Laquer----- WARNING!!!! WILL REMOVE PAINT!!!!!

So I have yet to find a product that will remove it with a cloth. I guess I'll try the turtlewax rubbing compound next? HHHHHHEEEEEEELLLLLLPPPPPPPPP!
