Q: 87 Euro model in US??? (archive)

Does anyone out there know if the early 88 US models were in fact 87 Euro built E30 M3s?? If so, what's the difference between that and the regularly imported 88 US models? Were there gray market cars imported in the US at late 87 / early 88 prior to BMW officially import the E30 M3s into the country?

What does a car in the US that is considered an 87 Euro built version means???
