Which HID is brighter? (archive)

I'm looking at HID conversions for our cars and was wondering if there is a difference between going with a 9006 HID or a european H1 HID?

I know with the regular bulbs getting the H1 headlight housing allow you to run higher wattage bulbs, but is there any benefit to convert from a 9006 to a H1 euro housing when doing a HID conversion?

If there is no difference in the brightness of the 9006 HID and H1 HID then I wouldn't need to purchase the euro headlights with the smiley face before doing a HID conversion. Trying to figure out if there is any benefit of paying the extra $$$ for euros when I intend to do a HID conversion or to just stick with 9006 HIDs.
