I am also replacing the rear main seal and the valve cover gasket set. Question 2. there is a plate on the back of the motor the it may be leaking oil from as well. It's just below the Valve cover. is this a comon place to leak oil?

Thanks
Scott.

It has a copper washer on it that may be leaking. I don't want to take it off if it is holding something inside the motor.

Thanks
Scott

its a plug for the rear of the main oil galley. common leak point. there were two kinds of plugs (one allen-head, one std hex head) -- they both work. if its leaking, and its not loose, then replace the washer (p/n 07 11 9 963 200 i think).

beware, though, that if you've got oil in your motor, some may come pouring out here (odds are if you've gotten to this plug, you've already drained the oil). better to drain the oil first (but some may still come out).

hth,
-jefrem
