I think these cars are very solid. mine has over 160,000 on it and has been great! It is my daily driver. If you get a 150,000+ 11+ year old car because one wants the performance, realize that things like the starter IS 11 years old. The "maintainence" is relitivly low, I have replaces the wheel bearings once in over 75,000 miles 9my miles). I am on the second set of suspension bushings. If these last 75,000 miles, like the originals, I will be MORE then happy. We have older cars than most folks, and drive them harder then most. If one decides to put cams, oversized pistons, upgraded intakes on, etc. that is NOT maintainence, these are upgrades.
And yes, stock sway bar mounts were undersized by BMW on the production modles. DTM allowed some suspension upgrades from "stock" on the race cars, and BMW saved money on the production runs. It is well known that if you run stiffer bars, you will break the mounts.
