They can get gummed up and you get spurious errors. Try removing it and clean it thoroughly with some washing up liquid and warm water. Dry and re-assemble.

My coolant light (in an '88 M3) wants to come on intermittantly. The coolant light (over the rear view mirror in the alarm panel) is for LEVEL only, right? That's what I thought, but isn't it true that it is for both HI and LOW levels - or just LOW? Anyway, my float works fine and my level is fine, so why does the alarm come on when I am driving down the highway? Dirty contacts?? Wiggling things around in there seems to cure the problem for a while! Thanks!
