...that road....And realised it is just TOO dangerous a road to drive fast on...for oneself and other road users.

Regards

Decided to take my E30 M3 for a country drive yesterday when an E36 EVO appeared behind me....we were a very tight (one narrow lane each way), twisty and massively undulating road (West Coast of Scotland). Eventually the guy in the Range Rover in front pulls off the road and 'off' I went! I didn't know the road at all ( and believe me it was probably the most challenging stretch I've ever been on most bends completely blind....and with a reasonable number of cars coming in the opposite direction ). Anyway, I was 'doing my best'...within a very few seconds this guy in the E36 EVO went FLYING past me on the opposite lane!...I don't mean just overtook me.....I mean FLYING past! I don't know how fast I was going......certainly too fast to take my eyes off the road to look at the speedo....lol!

I thought it's ok.....he obviously really knows the road I'll let him lead and I'll just try and keep up. Ha!.....no chance .....he just got further and further away....with nothing to follow my pace slowed even more until I was just catching the odd glimpse of him either a few bends ahead over flying over the crest of a hill! Eventually, he slows down and we stop for a chat. Nice guy.....turns out he drives that road everyday twice a day to and from work and is local to the area.

He's only recently got the E36 EVO but previously owned the red E30 M3 Convertible that can be seen on my website.....apparently he sold it to a guy who lives near me....so maybe I'll see it around this summer?

Anyway, I need to go and revisit that road a few more times...It is a really awesome stretch! Just hope I don't run into him again today and end up being 'destoyed' like yesterday.....lol

At the risk of sounding like an old fart, I just want to say be careful out there. On a recent trip back from Willow Springs,a friend and I decided that it would be fun to have a run through the canyon on the way back to L.A.Well,put two fools into fast cars with a relatively empty stretch of twisty road...Who hasn't done this? The temptation to push it just that little bit harder is really hard to resist. But remember that there are other people out there. Some of these people probably don't even see you coming, especially on those twisty canyon roads. They certainly don't expect to come around a bend to find some guy going balls out with a big grin on his face in a massive drift in the wrong lane.Well, getting back to the story, this pal of mine in his 84 Capri with about 300 horses under the hood and some pretty trick suspension mods decided to try to keep up with the M3 and nearly paid for it with his life.He lost it in a corner, crossed into the other lane(thank God no other traffic),and hit one hellish boulder that quickly turned that expensive, trick suspension into a wortless pile of metal. After being launched vertically for about 8 feet and horizontally for about 30,the car(now uncontrollable due to the trashed front end)continued down the road for about 50 yards before impacting a rock face.Lucky for him the guy he just flew by at85mph decided to be a good guy,and stopped and picked him up and brought him down out of the canyon. He didn't call the cops on his cel, which would have been within his rights to do.He simply pointed out to my pal that it was pretty stupid to be driving that fast. This was very obvious to my friend, who at that point, was pretty banged up with a bloody face and some nasty whiplash.Think about it.It can happen. It could very well have been me all smashed up,going to the hospital.Boy my wife and kids would be really impressed.Things turned out O.K. His car was written off.No police involved. No reckless driving violation. But two guys alot wiser for the experience. If you are going to drive fast, do it when no one else is around. Most other people don't share our love for the art of fast driving and they sure don't deserve to be taken out by some idiot. Be that idiot driving a nitrous injected rice rocket or our particular brand.Sorry for the sermon, but I like you guys too much to see anyone get killed...
