The E36 is very, very quick, boot it from 3500rpm in second and the back end squirms (no traction control) its also only one of 2 cars that i have driven (the other being my brothers caterham r ) that i have honestly scared myself with straight line acceleration. You know how a car starts to feel slow when you've had it for a while? i've not had this with the evo, why people fit superchargers to them i'll never know (probably have bigger balls than me!).
The downside?, well because it is so well insulated & probably because it is a newer car, it lacks that raw, noisy feel that you get with the E30. I still think the E30 is the better looking car.
As far as the handling goes, I read the E36 is not as good as the E30 etc, etc, well I dunno, My old E30 was completly rebushed & new bilstien sprints allround(std springs though as i was running 245/35/17 on rear) & that was pretty tidy.
My E36 has bilstien coilovers & eibach anti rollbars & poly bushes so thats pretty handy too.
The E36 probally coners just as fast but again, it decieves, due to lacking that raw feel.
What I would have done if finances had permitted, was keep the E30 AND bought the E36.... one day!
