Adrian, have a look here for exploded diagrams of the S14. Hope this is of some use to you.

I have a fully rebuilt E30 M3 engine with new pistons, shells, oil pump, timing chain etc and schrick cams. all is well and the engine is smooth and runs well. However recently on start up from cold it makes a clear tappet like noise for 20-30 seconds and this noise will come back to a certain extent when the engine is hot. The tappets are perfect and they sound ok at hot and cold temperatures (I run them a little tight to avoid tappet noise). The noise appears to come from below the inlet block area (Not leaking or anything like that). Any ideas as to what it might be ?

I can't think what might be inside the engine around that area rthat could be noisy ?

Anyone got a blown up piccie of the M3 engine ?

Thanks guys
Adrian
