Running costs for both are going to be high if anything goes wrong. Bear in mind that the E30 is going to be at least 11 years old, therefore it is naturally going to require a little more care than the E36. However, if they have been well maintained to start with the engines are bullet proof. I think you have to look at it this way, the E36 is a car to drive around in, with great performance. The E30 is your hobby that also doubles as fabulously rewarding car.
Good luck.

Can anyone give me advice on buying an e30 or e36 in the uk. I cannot decide on which one to choose. I really want an E30 but the sensible side of me wants the E36. This car needs to be used for my everyday to and from work, and also for the track. If the car is to be the E36 it will most probably be a non evo. I spoke to munich legends on the E30 and they quoted high prices compared with everybody else.
