The 262 was the 4 gear tranny, the 262 CR was the one with the CR and dogleg first gear. As far as I know, the CR tranny to be used on a big 6 or an M3-5-6 engine is the 262 CR. It has a 1:1 5th gear. This 262 CR can also be installed on an e30 3 serie, by using the bellhousing that came with the 528e, which had a big block transmission instead of the smaller one for M20s.

By the way, do not be fooled by the 262 stamping. Early 265s from the 1985 535i were using older 262 castings, but with OD gears. This is what I bought and installed on my e30 M3.

What dogleg tranny was in the euro E30 M3? An early 262 sport (as found in the 79-81' 635csi/M535i or later 265 CR like in the E28 M535i? Or are they the same tranny.....

My bet is a 265 CR, right?
