Thanks to all for the comments. I had to tow the car, and everything that will end up on it, to a scale today to confirm my estimates. Stock, the 88 E30 Weighed 2770# w/o fuel before I took it apart. Today, complete with fluids calculated in, on the same scale it weighed 2810#. So, I stand by my estimate that it weighs less than an E30 M3 with an iron blocked 3 series 6 cyl. Yes, I know that an E30 comes with a 4 Cyl but a popular conversion is installing a 3.2 M3 engine which costs alot more, weighs more and has much less HP and torque.
Balance? Since the E30 trans weighed 87# and the Camero aluminum 6-speed weighs 126# the balance of the car is better because the weight is slightly farther to the rear.
I love the E30 M3 but I am always looking to improve a good thing and, while I do appreciate that this type of project is not for everyone, this is the stuff I dream about at night. I've never seen a head that didn't need to have some porting done on it and adding lots of streetable torque and HP to this great little car is how I get my kicks at age 58.
Best regards to all, Sincerely, Bob Heacox
PS the name will remain M3 and since no alteration will need to be done to the body it will be the super sleeper.
