Weight of the rims is also a huge key to good acceleration.16 will move the center of mass further away from the axle center which will inhibit acceleration some.
If you are not racing etc. then use the 16, you will really like the handling.
If you have not purchased rims, then get the 8 inch wide rim to go w/ 225/45/16 tires and get them as light as you can afford.
