I recently had a similar problem with my cabrio.
Eventually turned out to be the heater valve just next to the accelerator pedal leading onto the heater matrix. It is a fairly easy job to replace this. You'll need to remove the centre console and both heater pipes in engine bay. Clear the water out before taking valve off to avoid coolant on your carpets. Once you've done this go into driver's footwell and remove some heater ducting to access three bolts which you'll need an 8mm spanner and then a small bracket with a torques screw and it should pull out fairly easily. HOPE THIS HELPS MATE
