Here's the deal... Had an S14 rebuilt by a very reputable specialist before putting it into my '73 2002tii. During the rebuild we decided to use Total Seal rings. Now that the motor has about 1500 miles on it I'm becoming concerned about oil use and the noticable oil smoke I leave for those behind me, particularly when I stomp it to enjoy that positive g-force.

It's been suggested that the Total Seal rings don't sweep the cylinder walls closely enough due the competition nature of their design. I've recently been using 20-50 Valvoline Racing oil, which is that grade that I began to notice the smoke. I'm going back to a thinner grade (10-40) to see if that makes a difference. After that, perhaps a thicker grade.

Any thoughts?
