You can install them without any spacers. The wheels should be 17x8 ET-20mm (Offset) I just installed 235/40ZR-17 Pilot SX MXX3 on my 1990 m3. No problems. However, if the car is lowered considerable amount, you might get some rubbing in the front when you turn.
