Just a guess, but that stuff is pretty caustic. Perhaps the split wheel arrangement increases the risk of some of it finding its way into a crevice and not being sufficiently rinsed out. If that stuff stayed in contact with the metal for a long period, I'd say the results would not be good.
Dunno, but I have thought the same before.
If you`re looking for a wheel cleaner maybe buy the BMW stuff. I had a complementary valet a while back and I was amazed at what they did to my wheels - amazingly clean.
....split rims?....That's what it says on the bottle.
