my guess is that stagnat heat from the exhaust (cat) is conducting itself thru the linkage and to the knob. Check your heat shields and cat for holes and cracks where heat can seep thru. I use a leather covered E36M knob myself.
hth, Chris

anyone had this problem??? i have an aluminum shift knob, while youre driving its usually cold or may get a little warm but after youve parked it, come back about 5-10 minutes and its hot, i mean hot like youve parked it out in the sun all day... any insights on this guys? THANKS...
