It won't fall into the motor, it was likely loose. I bought a metal cap when I lost mine. About four dollars at a local parts store for a generic. Then I replaced it for about 10 bux with the E46 M3 cap which has an ///M on it. It's palstic though. The generic was gold catplated and would look better painted black.

But it leaked and was too hot to handle after running the car. The BMW caps fit and work great and can be removed from a hot engine by hand.
