I had just changed the oil the day before. I noticed that the cap had a crack in it but still screwed on. Besides, it hadn't been a problem. I had planned on swinging by the BMW dealer and getting one one the way home from school, but it had already presented itself as a problem by the time I got to school. I know I didn't forget to put it back on because as I was screwing it on, I was joking with my dad about losing it..... go figure. So what I gather from looking around in here the E36 cap will fit as well as an E46 cap or no? Thanks, Chase

...than just falling off? My M3 had its original cap until it had 140K miles. I just changed it to renew the seal...a new cap is pretty tight. A lot of M3`s are on the track with an OE cap...I don`t see any problem with it.
