Here's what I did on a Mercedes 560SL. (My '88 has no bag)

* Ground myself, to avoid static electricity.

* Unplug the bag carefully.

* Be careful when reinstalling.

* Just in case I did it from outside of the car.

By the way, lots of older airbags are supposed to be replaced every 10 years.
