: M3 (E36) vs 850CSi (E31)

: How do they compare in performance and handeling ?
: Models from around 1994-1996.

I must also chime in on this subject. Before buying my E31, I had put a deposit down on a Brand New M3. For a week following, I began counting the M3s in my area. I was counting between 10-15 a day. Although the stock 850i may be no match for an M3 from 0-60, the E31 is a very, read very powerfull and luxurious automobile. This is not to say that the M3 does not have its place. Remember, BMW designed the E31 to be the pinnacle of Automotive engineering. New, these cars cost well over 80K, that is twice the price of a new M3. Also, they are twice as expensive to repair.

In the end, don't buy an E31 to try and out run your friends from stop light to stop light. Buy one because it is the most beautiful coupe that BMW has ever produced....
