840 engine cover removal (archive)

Simple sounding task but I am not having much luck. I recently bought a high mileage 1994 840Ci and am in the process of going thru it. One of the back cover release bolts/releases is missing. The other rear release seems to release but the front will not. There appears to be a concentric action as the cover will move some as I turn the nuts thru their easily turned rotation. But no release. I hate to force it. Anyone have the solution?
