: I took a look at an 850csi with an automatic today. The car has 60k miles and is in great shape. I believe it was a '91. The dealer is asking $30,000 for it. Does this sound like a fair price? It's been on his lot for over a year so I'm a little cautious.

Hey Greg,
I was an E34 owner as well and found the 8 Series appealing. I now own a 1992 850i six speed.
You need to be VERY careful and educate yourself on the E31 model line-up.
You are not looking at a TRUE 850CSi. They were produced from 1994 to 1995 and only came as a six speed. You are looking at a 1991 850i. There is a big difference. Only 200 850CSi were produced for the United States. They have 372HP, modified suspension etc. If it has 850CSi badges... RUN!!! It's a fake. Who knows what else is not accurate on the auto then? Otherwise I think you just THOUGHT it was a CSi.... not to worry it's a common mistake.
Make sure you drive it OK? These autos are big and heavy. The 1991 has 286HP with the 5.0L you are looking at and can be kinda slow off the line with an automatic. Once it gets going though... look out!! It's a great cruiser.
Good luck and spend a few hours looking through all the E31 posts to make sure this is a good move for you.
Good Luck!!
