I just had new cat converters put on my 840Ci. I found a manufacturer of after market converters in Hayward,Ca that was willing to make up units for my 840 for $300ea in quantities of two(compared to $1500+ ea at the dealer). Turns out that I used an available unit they had that they said would give me the same performance, just a little different can configuration. Total $424.75 including tax for two units and installation at their shop that is run separate from the manufacturing plant. They kept my cores for modeling units for future orders for BMW 840 cats. They cut them at the converter so make sure that this point is clarified if you want go this route. They indicated that they could make a carbon copy of any converter if they had the old ones sent in for can design. They are a big outfit with racks of literally hundreds of new converters stacked in racks on one end of the plant. Nice people to deal with. Impressive!!
The address is: Miller Catalyzer Corporation, 3295 Depot Road, Hayward Ca, 94545,1-800-501-CATS. I talked to Matt. Mike Betts in the installation shop (1-510-782-8966) had the cores or could make the recommendation for the substitute cats.

: I might be in a need of a new catalic converter for my 840Ci. Does anybody ever used an aftermarket one and if so, where can I get one too ? The original is way too expensive at the d(s)ealer.
