After confirming that it wasn't a CSi, all I could do was "narrow" down the choices. The metal placards stamped inside the doors stated that the car was built in Garching, Germany in 1991.
Since, the Ci did not come out until 1993, I figured it had to be an i. Of course, the floor mats saying "850i" helped, too ;-).
That was how I inititially determined the trim level. However, later, I contacted a couple of BMW collectors and my local dealership for assistence, that is how I determined the *complete* history of the vehicle. The dealership wasn't as helpful in the sense that they were a dealer, but rather due to the fact that they had a handful of VERY knowledgable BMW afficianados working there. A little leg work, more paperwork, and a lot of patience later, I was able to piece together a good picture of where my car has been, etc.
