Crevier BMW [is] selling what they call the last NEW 8 series. It is a 97 850 Ci, red/blk, auto. What is a fair price to pay?
From other posts, I'm assuming this E31 has never been titled and it has about 150 miles on the odometer. If that is the case, the car is probably worth somewhat more than a 1997 850Ci that has been titled and driven, but not as much as a brand-spanking-new 1997 850Ci purchased within a few months of its construction. How much more? That's a negotiation problem. Just remember that storing a car for several years can be detrimental to its condition. The car is worth whatever the buyer and seller agree its worth. Finally, I would caution against paying a large premium just to own the "latest" model E31. IMHO, doing that just sets you up to eat a giant hunk of depreciation -- just the everybody else who bought an E31 new.
