I didn't mean to come off sounding affronted... I was going for a tone more like sardonic amusment. You can't take anything serious on the web.
The car is truly unique. If you were located close to DE, I would be happy to show you the car. After hearing back from BMW, all plans to modify the car faded. It would be like having a mint Shelby Cobra and throwing a cherrybomb exhaust on it to inkle out a couple extra horsepower.
There are few car collectors that can appreciate (or remember) cars as vintage pieces. Honestly, if you looked over the example of the E31 that I possess and you honestly don't see the asking price in it, you are not the kind of person that I am hoping to sell the car to.
Snobbish? Yes. Unjustified? No.
I have considered buying another, commonbreed 850 after this, per your suggestion. I decided against this idea, though. I decided that before I bought another E31, I would hang onto the Feb. delivery M5 that I am selling instead. However, even before the M5, I would hope to close a deal on a '97 Lotus that I am in the middle of. Admittedly, the Lotus would be a gigantic step backwards in terms of luxury, but it would be a fun car, all the same. So, I did consider your suggestion, but I think it is time to move on.
I tried to look up a Eurospec, Garching-built, E31 in the blue book... I didn't find one, though. Where did you find it? The only entries I could find were for US cars (w/o all the Euro options) that weighed more, and were pressed off in Dingolfing. ;-)
