Regarding why US cars weigh a bit more, generally it's due to the federalization process (or rather, what's added to make the car meet federal safety standards). This can include door beams, different bumpers, etc.

: : US cars usually weight a little more than EU spec. cars. Does anybody knows why ?
: for example :

: 1994 840Ci - EU : 1780kg
: US : 1870kg
: 1994 850Ci - EU : 1790kg
: US : 1870kg
: 1994 850CSI- EU : 1865kg
: US : 1890kg

: Also most of the time the US spec. cars has a higher numerical gear ratio.
: 1994 850Ci - EU : 3.15
: US : 3.64

: Does this mean that becuse of the extra weight but smaller ratio (higher number) the car still does the same 0-60 time or ... ? The weight difference is not that much so I dont't think that would do anything with acceleration in real life. Anybody has any idea ?
